Brunch at Sweet Ameilia's, a sampling of their Mushroom-Focused Menu

We went through our usual list of ideas - The Whip Tavern, Roots Cafe, and Bierhaul - Farmhouse.

Nothing seemed to fit our current mood.

We needed something that allowed us to take a break from the usual hurried engine that has become our weekly lifestyle.

Work - Family life - Finances - Relationships - Aging Parents - Church - on and on and on

One of our new goals is to really take Sundays as a rest day.

We needed somewhere that enhanced, not sabotaged, our new found Sunday goals.

Often the place we chose can be busy so it was a gamble.

But, given the current rainy and overcast weather, and the fact that it was around 1:30pm we thought it was worth a try.

Sweet Amelia’s here we come.

You may have seen their past cart at the mushroom festival but don’t sleep on their dining experience inside.

If you get a chance be sure to take a look at their creative and inspired brunch menu.

TIP: Go off hours because we were told that the rush was earlier. Even after the rush, the space, food, and staff didn’t seem tired.

We chose to sit right up front near the street.

One of the complaints I have of a lot of places is they lack windows!

This front seat has large windows overlooking State street.

On a rainy and dreary day - and hungry and thirsty - this was perfect.

The menu is creative yet approachable.

We, of course, gravitated towards the items featuring local mushrooms.

When in Rome!

As an appetizer I decided to sample the Hen of the Woods with Chive Mayo. Tasty, earthy, and the mayo drizzle was a homerun. I paired this with the Chenin Blanc (they have partnered with R5 Wines out of Downingtown)

For the main dish I went with the creamy polenta (grits for us southern folks), sauteed Pennsylvania mushrooms and topped with a fried egg.

Something filling, new, and yet familiar - consistent and dependable. I paired this with the rose. However, I found the rose to be a little funky for my taste so I would recommend going with a sparkling wine or another white.

Looking for a place to rest and recover on Sundays?

I would highly recommend Sweet Amelia’s

It change’s often and chef and spouse team Zach and Karessa are a talented duo.

If you want creativity without pretension I would highly recommend them.
